There are several candidates to face Floyd Mayweather in 2020 after the undefeated star revealed he will come out of retirement for two fights next year.
The 42-year-old walked away from boxing following his victory over Conor McGregor in 2017, leaving his professional record at 50-0.
He returned to the ring on New Year’s Eve in 2018 when he destroyed MMA fighter Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition fight.
And ‘Money’ has revealed he will return to the ring once more, stating in a post to Instagram: “Coming out of retirement in 2020.”
Spectacular Event
And there are a number of potential opponents lined up for Mayweather, including speculation of another exhibition with a UFC fighter.
There are several UFC fighters in the mix, with rumours of Khabib Nurmagomedov or a McGregor rematch, and Jorge Masvidal and Tyron Woodley both expressing interest in a switch to boxing.
Mayweather also posted a picture of himself with UFC president Dana White recently with the caption: “@danawhite and I working together again to bring the world another spectacular event in 2020.”
Comeback Fight
Furthermore, T.J. Dillashaw has called out Mayweather and thinks he can finish what Conor McGregor couldn’t back in 2017.
Dillashaw is eligible to fight in the UFC again in January 2020 following a doping ban. He told ESPN: “I’ve got a whole year to reinvent myself to become a boxer. I’ve got the who’s-who in the boxing world – he ain’t going to be able to wear me out and finish me because of my cardio.”
“I think that’s a very intriguing fight. I’d love to get that Mayweather fight.”
But it’s not only UFC fighters lining up to get in the ring with Money, with some speculation of a second showdown with Manny Pacquiao, and several other boxers still after a shot.
Amir Khan has declared he is still interested in a fight: “Who I want more than anyone is Floyd Mayweather.”
‘It’s Different Now’
Meanwhile, Canelo Alvarez has expressed interest in a chance to avenge his only career loss, which came against Mayweather in 2013.
Alvarez told TMZ: “It’s different now,” he said. “I’m a different fighter.”
“I think he’s good too but I’m a different fighter now.”
“Maybe [it would be a] different fight.”
Fans can expect more surrounding Mayweather’s two opponents in the near future, but whoever he goes head-to-head with, it’s sure to be a huge spectacle.
